A panel discussion looking at two distinct case studies featuring Gabrielle Lansner and Greg Vander Veer, focusing on creating projects from beginning to end. Two expert panelists give a step-by-step overview of their respective processes from conception to creation to distribution. Topics will include: conception, strategizing, fundraising, will touch on both "non-commercial" and "for hire" models, Kickstarter, marketing and distribution.

Dance filmmakers are encouraged to present raw footage, drafts, works-in-progress and newly finished films to their peers for artist-centered, constructive feedback. Screening opportunities are open to members of DFA and DNA and are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The focus of this panel is to arm attendees with concrete knowledge about the spectrum of distribution strategies that are available. This panel specifically focuses on what distributors are looking for in project for various platforms including festivals, television, and digital/internet based platforms

Screening excerpts of the key films that every filmmaker should know. All Kovgan will focus both on dance film and "traditional" films, giving attendees an overview of development of film techniques, aesthetics and idioms, and discussion of concepts and the development of the cinematic form.

The class will explore notions of how we think about structure as artists and how we experience structure as audiences. Through conversation and exercises, we will test structure types to see which we consider more and less compelling and why. Lepcio will introduce a grid that she uses in her playwriting and devised work as a tool for further exploration. By the end of the session, each participant will have outlined the structure of a project either from something they are developing or something developed in the session.

Moderated Screenings are a service provided for artists to get feedback in a constructive setting. It brings dance filmmakers together to present raw footage, drafts, works-in-progress and newly finished films to their peers for artist-centered, constructive feedback. These sessions are informal showings centered on discussion about the footage being shown, primarily for the artists to get reactions, constructive criticism, and process-related feedback on these works. Must be a DFA or DNA members to submit your work.
