You’ve probably already seen the latest Google Doodle celebrating Martha Graham’s birthday.
But you may not know that the Graham company member whose dancing was the basis for the animation is Blakely White-McGuire, a DFA member and contributor to the Dance on Camera Journal.
Blakely’s modest note accompanying the link reads:
It features Martha Graham, the revolutionary dancer, choreographer, artist and founder of the Martha Graham Dance Company (in which I currently dance). It is of great significance that an global entity of Google’s stature chose to honor a dancer and bring attention to her work. Hopefully, new fans will emerge as the world learns more about dance as a serious endeavor and an art form from which we can experience, learn and evolve. Also, FYI… it’s me dancing in the animation!! 🙂
