The class will explore notions of how we think about structure as artists and how we experience structure as audiences. Through conversation and exercises, we will test structure types to see which we consider more and less compelling and why. Lepcio will introduce a grid that she uses in her playwriting and devised work as a tool for further exploration. By the end of the session, each participant will have outlined the structure of a project either from something they are developing or something developed in the session.

In this workshop, multi-disciplinary artists Zach Morris, Tom Pearson and Jennine Willett lead participants through their process of creating movement works for non-procenium formats, specifcially highlighting and addressing the unique technical, practical, and artistic challenges of creating dance film, from a choreographer's perspective. Third Rail’s directors will share numerous choreographic tactics and strategies for staging and choreographing for the camera and will introduce a series of exercises focused on movment generation, framing/composition, working with the architecture of a location, and shooting strategies.
