Dafeena is a site-specific dance for camera that adapts the work of Natasha Bakht, which she originally created for the CanAsian International Dance Festival. Bridging the forms of Bharata Natyam and Contemporary Dance and shot in an abandoned crystal quarry, the camera follows two guardian figures as they act out a mysterious yet still intimately familiar ancient ritual. This poetic and colourful film celebrates the spirit and the rhythm of nature as it calls attention to the passage of time through experimentation with light and refracted images.
