Perceptual Motion, is an interactive motion participation and photography exhibit by internationally renowned photographer and filmmaker, Klaus Lucka. While working on panoramic compositions of Swan Lake, performed by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Lucka found he was missing the feeling of live performance — the sense, the beauty of the dancers motions. He was inspired to take the next step, enhancing the motion by adding trails, first by adding layers of the same video and moving each video layer by one frame. Thus a new art form was born. Lucka’s new installation combines, large scale photography and new experimental dance videos (including Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo) highlighting the interactive experience through which the viewer can take on the role of choreographer.

Klaus Lucka’s career began in his native Germany when, at the age of sixteen, he was asked to photograph Marlene Dietrich for a fragrance advertising campaign for the esteemed Parisian couture house Nina Ricci. In the ‘70s and ‘80s he made his mark in beauty, fashion, advertising, and editorial photography in Canada and New York with painterly, sensual, seemingly instinctive images that belie his meticulous engineering and technical sophistication.
In New York, Klaus turned his talents to television advertising, leading to award-winning international work for clients in New York, Japan, and Los Angeles. In 1992, Japan’s Amlux Theater in Tokyo chose Klaus from 500 directors worldwide to produce and direct their innovative 20-minute interactive sensory-enhanced documentary, “SideTracked”, which broke all previous attendance records. Over the past fifteen years, Klaus has innovated, designed, and beta-tested interactive software, and now advises leading advertising agencies on Web-based marketing.
