Dance Films Associations presents:
Header Munging: Homologous Edition. In this mixed-media evening of both live and recorded performance, Matt Romein and his collaborators Sophie Sotsky and Samuel Baumel seek to reconceptualize dance film. Elaborating on Romein and Sotsky’s 2013 video art/dance performance
Header Munging, the
Homologous Edition takes a closer look at some of the work’s original elements through the lenses of dance, interactive coding, improvisatory audio/visual technologies, and dance film respectively.
Header Munging is based around Romein’s custom programming developed in MaxMSP/Jitter for use with the Kinect 3D/depth camera. The original work looks at ways in which movement can be generated using glitch theory and terminology and then augmented with interactive video technologies. Conversely, the
Homologous Edition highlights each of the artists’ individual artistic practices through a prism, displaying their autonomous work side by side, as well as blended together in a dance film version of
Header Munging which combines the artistic practices of all three artists.
Matt and Sophie will lead a workshop Thursday morning examining improvisational scores and techniques based around computer language as means for generating movement. The workshop will also give attendees the opportunity to interact with technologies developed specifically for this performance, to learn about body/camera relationships in live performance, and to compare improvisational practices in movement-based forms and technology-based ones.
