Part I, “From the Dance Films Association Archives” A short 27min program of DFA’s archival picks will be made available including:

Bittersweet by David Rousseve Freely weaving narrative, dance, gesture, fantasy and possibility, Bittersweet explores the relationships of three women of color to their husbands, lovers, and to one another in an alternately lyrical and violent look at race and gender politics. (2005)

Modern Daydreams: Deere John by Mitchell Rose A man and a 22-ton John Deere excavator dance a dance of discovery, fulfillment, and eventually, the loss that any diesel-based relationship must suffer. (2000)

Wake Up Call by Pooh Kaye Planned specifically to exploit painted and sculptural film animation technique, in the words of Christine Temins from The Boston Globe Globe: “Wake Up Call is a little gem, about a woman – Kaye – who has the world’s worst time getting going in the morning …” (1987)

Part II, “Dance Films Association Production Grant Honorees” A short 11min program of two short film awardees for DFA’s 2019 production grant competition screen in this special Dance Films Presents program include:

Monster News Feed by Cara Hagan Monster News Feed follows a central character who, when overwhelmed and attacked by the media they consume (literally and figuratively) through analogue and digital means, decides to fight back to reclaim sound body and mind.

Clear Creek by Ellen Smith Ahern Two women dance through iconic western images and into something new: a moving portrait of home, land and memory as illuminated by the voices of a rural Wyoming community.

Dance Films Presents makes a digital debut on July 20 at 6;30pm at Dance on Camera 2020 with this FREE program in order to protect its audiences from Covid-19.
