Camera Operation and Shooting Strategies

Topics will include: basic understanding of camera operation, shooting strategies, and concrete concepts and methods to enable artists to have more formalized approach to their filming process. Class will also touch on capturing audio during the film shoot.
Taught by Matt Rivera Matt Rivera is the Senior Producer at MSNBC.com responsible for creating original video series for the most widely viewed video news site in the world. Prior to working at MSNBC.com, he was a Multimedia Producer for the Wall Street Journal where her served as the producer for Page One stories and helped launch the Greater New York section of WSJ.com. Matt graduated from NYU’s Carter Journalism Institute in 2004 and co-founded a production company called Moose Productions in 2003. Moose focused on creating feature length verite documentaries (including a film about Karole Armitage and another about the White House Hotel – one of the last flophouses on the Bowery), reality TV programming (for A&E and the Travel Channel) and online shorts (CurrentTV and at the FilmShop). He’s served as an adjunct at NYU’s J-School’s Business and Economic Reporting program, a graduate-level program that combined MBA coursework with a Master’s in Journalism and Communication and has lead classes at the Bauhaus-Weimar, the BBC’s PDP program, and the UN office of Multimedia, Radio, Photo & Television.
