A conversation with Suzon Fuks- told by Brighid Greene
“
Welcome to Waterwheel-an interactive, collaborative platform for sharing media and ideas, performance and presentation.”And hello. I’m Brighid Greene, Communications Assocaite of
Dance Films Assocaition, And this is John Hoobyar, Program Administrator at
Pentacle, and we like to welcome you to our untapped conversation with Suzon Fuks.
“
Suzon is an internationally recognized intermedia artist, choreographer and director exploring the integration and interaction of body and moving image through performance, screen, installation and online work. She focuses on screendance and networked performance.
During her Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship (2009-2012), she initiated and co-founded WATERWHEEL, an ongoing project about Water, as a topic or metaphor.
The Tap provides an online, real-time venue and forum, workshop and stage, for live networked performance and presentation. Here you can create and collaborate, rehearse and remix, present and exchange, participate and communicate—privately with your crew, or publicly with your audience. The Tap provides tools for live networking,real-time media mixing and drawing, and combining up to six webcams.”
John and I spoke with Suzon after a meeting on Govenors Island. Exactly two weeks later, Hurricane Sandy descended, and the sea flooded New York. Govenors Island lost power, displacing a handful of
LMCC Swing Space artists in residence. So yes, water as topic or metaphor is certainly relevant to the current New York City art climate.
On Wednesday, November 14th Suzon will hold a hands-on introductory workshop on the Waterwheel platform and the TAP system for media artists, performers, scientists and water activists. A live TAP session will be devoted to climate change and the effects of Hurricane Sandy on our communities. Please register in advance through the
Kinetic Cinema Waterwheel facebook event to include your photos, videos, and other media about the storm in this live session.
