DFA PROGRAMS
Dance Films Association and the Film Society of Lincoln Center partner to co-present the annual Dance on Camera Festival, February 1-5, 2013 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Lincoln Center Plaza, New York City.

This year, Dance Films Association welcomes Liz Wolff as co-curator with Film Society of Lincoln Center curator Joanna Ney for the 2013 and 2014 Dance on Camera Festivals.

Entry fee is free to DFA members; $30 for non-members. Dance films of all types and lengths are accepted. We welcome screen adaptations of stage choreographies, narratives, documentaries, abstract and experimental shorts as well as performances videos.

Virtuosi is a documentary dance film directed by highly acclaimed filmmaker/choreographer Sue Healey. It features the cine-portraits of 8 New Zealand dance artists who have created stellar international careers and is framed by the music of Mike Nock, an acknowledged master of jazz in Australasia.The film takes you across the globe to ask “What drives these artists to pursue careers to the other side of the world? What are the revelations when one returns home? Why dance?”Virtuosi dances ideas across many fascinating cities and cultures – Berlin, London, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Townsville, Brussels – revealing fascinating dance lineages and connections back to New Zealand.

A mysterious woman, Lilith, emerges through a membrane stained with the black oil that feeds the metal beasts of men. Her primal movements shudder and probe the concrete jungle that stands between her and a rising metropolis. A woman in her thirties, Robyn, is on her way to speak at the Boys and Girls Club. She has an inspiring and candid conversation with teenagers about the unrest the world is experiencing. Robyn can’t help but feel Lilith’s presence in the city as an omen of the apocalyptic change stirring in the air. Will they dance as the fires burn? Will you join the flames? |
