Films that Move at Gibney Dance Center Dance Films Association is excited to introduce our newest series, Films That Move. From large scale events to smaller intimate screenings, these varied collections of films have movement in common. Our goal? Embed dance film into New York City’s locomotive fabric. We’re starting local, collaborating with our friends down the street for Films That Move at Gibney Dance Center. In the future months, we’ll expand, reaching downtown, to Brooklyn, and soon all five boroughs. We’ll have more to share in the coming weeks about Films That Move, be on the lookout! Guess Who’s In The Greenroom? at Gibney Dance Center

guess who's in the greenroom Alongside Films That Move at Gibney Dance Center, Christy Park, Executive Director of DFA will be in the Greenroom to answer any questions about how to produce your dance as a film. May 23rd, 2012 11:00-2:00 Gibney Dance Center 890 Broadway, 5th Floor New York, NY 10010 Once a month, Gibney Dance Center hosts a different “expert” in our green room to provide 1:1 advice and information sessions to members the dance community. These 30-minute sessions are offered for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Each expert summarizes the content of his or her sessions in a brief movie that is catalogued on our website or featured on our blog. To request a half hour appointment, RSVP allie@gibneydance.org.  

DFA Curated Kickstarter Page

Our two most recently curated projects on our Kickstarter Page are from DFA Members. We ask you to support their efforts and fuel the artist to artist giving cycle! What Love Tells Me by Keyvn Farichild Kickstarter Project  what love tells meTwo men. One city. Passion without words.  Expressed entirely through dance, their bodies are their voices as their romance blooms. The title of the film comes from Mahler’s own description of the final movement of his genre-shattering symphonic work, which inspired the film. Principle photography will begin June 2012.  Money raised through Kickstarter will be used to cover various production expenses including equipment, talent, crew, incentives, post-production and music rights. Fleet Moves Dance Festival produced by The Movement Party Kickstarter Project  fleet moves Fleet Moves is a brand new dance festival produced by the The Movement Party in collaboration with Wellfleet Preservation Hall, and Farm Project Space. During the week of the festival we (a collaborative group of 20 artists, teachers, and volunteers) will set the town in motion with all-day programming that includes daily classes, indoor and outdoor performances, a visual art exhibition, film screenings, and a closing night dance party. Your donations will cover: Room and board for participating artists in Wellfleet, DJ equipment rental and fees for closing night party, printing costs, shipping and handling for visual art, and insurance.
