Films That Move: A Seasonal Series
Current and Upcoming Programs
Since 1999, DFA has facilitated the Dance on Camera Tour, bringing films from our annual Dance on Camera festival to venues outside of New York, ranging from Finland to Slovakia to Texas to Hawaii. But in 2012, we thought, why not create a way for these films to screen in our local neighborhood, throughout New York City? Out of this idea grew Films That Move. From large scale events to small intimate screenings, Films That Move presents ambitious programming focused on films specifically geared for the chosen venue and theme around NYC. Many of these films are from our annual Dance on Camera Festival, reflecting our dedication to support these filmmakers year round but additional films are works we are excited to introduce to an audience.

Films That Move: Hot Pavement Dreams Summer Series
Screenings in June and July, 2013
VENUE/ORGANIZATION RFP OPEN ONLY DURING APRIL!
What’s Hot Pavement Dreams Summer Series? An extension of Films That Move, it’s a community-encouraged summer screening series for NYC venues and organizations to bring dance film to their neighborhood during June and July.
Who is it for? Screenings are for everyone! But if you represent a venue or organization based in one of the five boroughs, then you can submit an RFP to have a screening during the series.
And what’s happening this Spring? Submit your RFP during the month of April to have a screening during the next (and first!) Films That Move: Hot Pavement Dreams Summer Series.
No membership required to submit.
Open to anyone in the five boroughs.
Guidelines apply, listed below.
How will this work? It’s quite simple, please read the following before filling out the RFP.
DFA will open submission four times per year. Each submission period will be for the corresponding seasonal series.
We can commit to only so many screenings. DFA staff will make selections based on factors such as dates, location, and the feasibility of a program.
Once the current RFP closes, notifications will be sent out in one week to all those who applied.
What are the guidelines? There are just a few, listed below here.
Your venue/organization must be based in New York City, but this can be anywhere from Fort Tyron to Coney Island to Astoria.
Because we uphold paying filmmakers, we ask that you and/or your organization contribute $250 towards artists fees. DFA will facilitate communications with the filmmakers, manage print traffic, oversee the screening, supply staff at the event, publicize the screening, and of course work closely to curate the program.
We are conscious of the films screening and their relationship to the the venue so there is programming continuity.
We will only consider RFP’s for the season they are submitted to. For example, if you submit in April, it’s to have a screening in June or July. So for example, if you want to have a screening in December, hold tight for those submissions to open in October.
To keep these programs fun and accessible, we hope they’ll be open to the public and easy to attend, either free of charge, donation based, or a small admission fee. We are happy to work with you to make this more feasible, but please consider this in your application.
IMPORTANT: This is an RFP/submission form for venues interested in screening dance films. This is not a submission form for filmmakers interested in having their films screened.
