A group of young dancers living inside of an abandoned 1930’s ballroom retrace the footsteps of the pioneers of dance history. They embark on a journey of self-discovery while charting their personal narratives alongside a dance-historical arc. Scene by scene and room by room, they unpack themes of masculinity, gender identity and national identity. With an original score by Chris Garneau, the dancers take shape both as embodiments of dance-historical material and as ghosts – dances superimposed on a space no longer inhabited by the dancer – offering new horizons for the vitality of this ephemeral form.
