Woodstock Diamond Dance and Film Festival

The annual Woodstock Diamond Dance & Film Festival 2015 will be presented with two showings on Saturday, July 18 at  4 PM  &   6 PM. This new addition to the summer program will be the collaboration with Dance Films Association which, along with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, co-presents the “Dance on Camera Festival” at Lincoln Center.
 
 Combining  a  program of  live dance, music and dance films, this program will have something for everyone.  The 4 PM   &  6 PM   shows will include a wine and cheese reception sponsored by JK’s Wine and Liquor in Kingston.  General admission is $18. and Children under 14  $8. Tax  deductible.
An excerpt of “A Dancer’s View of Calder’s Universe” choreographed by Linda Diamond for WPBT Miami television will be shown.
 
Immediately following the 6 PM show- Filmmakers Ze’eva Cohen, Deirdre Towers and Sally Gross shall be available to meet the public and answer questions.
 
Two films by  Deirdre Towers are “Banished” with cinematography by Ted Ciesielski and Nan Melville.  The featured dancer is Caroline Copeland. The other film is “Black Light” with   cinematography by Dikayl and danced by former Martha Graham principal Katherine Crockett.
 
Live  dance performance will alternate between the film showings. Flamenco dance  by the Exploraciones duet will feature solo dancer Deirdre Towers  accompanied by Flamenco guitarist, Jared Newman.  Modern Dance by LINDA DIAMOND & COMPANY shall include 3  works.  One is “Amor” the last work created for the company by Anna Sokolow with music by David Lanz. It will be performed by Linda Diamond & Company member Allan McCormick , who formerly was with Cirque de Soleil company internationally.   A new work “Ruminations on Dance”   is a duet to be danced by McCormick and Diamond, combining poetry and visual art video by Woodstock artist Coco Monier.   Music is by Tom DeSisto and Alice Coltrane.  “The Afternoon of a Faun” is a tribute  to Nijinsky’s work, choreographed and danced by Allan McCormick.  It was  recently premiered at Lincoln Center with live orchestra.
 
Live music will be presented by  RIO LIBRE,  a string  & percussion group that combines a mixture of classical, popular and world music.  Ralph Garritano plays guitar and mandolin, Gabriel Dresdale plays cello, and David Budd plays percussion. The group will play at the end of the 4 PM  show and the beginning of the 6 PM  show.
 
Producer Diamond says this innovative approach to featuring dance on camera along with live music and dance will provide a rich tapestry weaving the various media in one program.  Audiences will have a variety of styles to enjoy.
