One Day Pina Asked… by Chantal Akerman. We’ve invited Sylvie Vitaglione back to continue the conversation with documentary filmmakers in this Dance Film Lab panel discussion.
SYLVIE VITAGLIONE is a PhD candidate in the Department of Cinema Studies at NYU. She received a BA from UC Berkeley in Dance/Performance Studies in 2009, and an MA in Film Studies from University College London in 2010. Prior to this she attended Russian ballet school in France and trained as a contemporary dancer in San Francisco and London. Her research explores the role of site-specific practice in contemporary dance films. Her article “Experimental Dance Films and the Misuse of Urban Space” is forthcoming in April 2016 with Intellect Books. She has attended and presented at numerous international dance film festivals and symposiums including the most recent Video Danse in Burgundy, France (May 2015) and Light Moves Festival in Ireland (Nov 2014). She currently teaches classes at Tisch on Choreography and the Moving Image and the History and Aesthetics of Music Videos. She is also a certified yoga instructor and avid cyclist.
