Dance Film Lab Screening
Curated by Chris Henderson of Moviehouse
Adagio & Danseuse Live at the Cotton Club
by Marta Renzi
New York
Why dance? Why watch dance? Starting with the effervescent music of a big band and juxtaposing that with a comedic mis-reading of ballet, Adagio takes an intimate look at the mysterious joy of movement.
Surface Tension
by Victoria Murphy, created for Dances Made to Order
Brooklyn
Two figures, a bowl, water, wet linens—these prompt a man’s recollection of the primary women of his childhood. As he falls asleep in search of answers (What were you to me?…what language were you speaking?), the viewer becomes the lucid dreamer, entering into a region of gesture, motion and witness. “Surface Tension” presents a liminal, kinetic space of inquiry, memory and dream; it leads us from the private sphere of the mind toward public place and community.
Void Decked
by Elysa Wendi
Singapore
The film suggests an abstraction of the human traffic under the public housing in Singapore through the exploration of horizontal plane.
You Can Call Me Cal
by Amanda Ring
New York
