Advocacy, Distribution & Advertising
DFA acts as an advocate for the artform, securing means of advertising and distribution in schools, festivals, broadcasts, and the web opportunities. Recent alliances include the United Federation of Teachers, National Dance Education Organization, Dance Heritage Coalition, Classic Art Showcase, ReelNewYork, Ovation, and Dancemedia.com which created a dance on camera for this community.

Artist Development
DFA can offer feedback on members' works in progress, either privately with our network of mentors or in public through our Dance Film Lab and through the Young Choreographers Initiative. We can offer contacts from our extensive database. DFA's staff are readily available to answer questions and to discuss your needs.

Discounts & Prizes
Members receive discounts on selected new DVDS. Members may enter their film or video to DFA's annual Dance on Camera Festival and Symposium for no fee and attend all events at a discount. They are invited to all the events leading up to and during the festival as well as receive the festival program. DFA offers a Jury Cash Prize as part of the annual Dance on Camera Festival, as well as fees to the artists chosen for the touring programs around the world. Also new in 2008, members can enjoy a 10% on a few bed and breakfast hotels in NYC.

Fiscal Sponsorship
Members may apply to DFA to gain a non-profit umbrella for their film or video projects, or presentation. The application process is simply to send by e-mail your project description, budget, plans for distribution, project team. By mail, send to DFA a sample of previous film or video, or your work in progress. See the list of current projects

Library
Members may screen DFA’s library of videos, as well as read the many articles on dance for the camera. Tri-standard deck (PAL/NTSC) may be used upon appointment at DFA's office. Members can e-mail requests for contacts from our database of dance films and videos in circulation. Informal discussions on the art of dance on camera are on-going.

Post-Production Funding
Members may apply for DFA’s annual post-production grants. Proposals should include DVD or VHS of work-in-progress, budget, distribution plans, biographies of key members of the creative team, and brief description. There is no form to fill, simply supply the above info. Deadline for next application: May 30, 2009

Recent DFA grants were given to: Gabri Christa for her second film in a trilogy called SAVONETA, Maysles Institute for a documentary on Sally Gross; Maria Ramas for her documentary on the ballerina Mia Slavenska; Victoria Murphey for a cinedance; Nancy Stevens for a documentary on blind dancers; Sylvina Szperling for her cinedance involving her mother and daughter; Karina Epperlein for her documentary on the late Homer Avila, PHOENIX DANCE; David Licata for his dance for the camera, TANGO OCTOGENARIO, Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine for BALLETS RUSSES now distributed by Zeitgeist Films, and Ken Glazebrook's AFRICAN DANCE: SAND, DRUM AND SHOSTAKOVICH distributed by Documentary Educational Resources.

Publications
Members receive either the on-line Dance on Camera Ezine or Journal, a bi-monthly publication, depending on their preference, as well as our Annual Review. The subjects range from reviews and essays, news on opportunities, and issues facing artists. Opportunities are also e-mailed to members.See recent Ezine

Workshops
Marketing, Music Clearance, Choreography for Camera, and Editing. Recent clients include: Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, New York; Kannon Dance Company and School in St. Petersburg, Russia; American Ballet Theater, and Frederick Douglass Academy in Harlem, NYC.

Photography Exhibits
Dance photography exhibits have been mounted in conjunction with the Festival at the Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery at Lincoln Center (2008 Exhibit devoted to Nanette Melville) and The Puffin Room in Soho.
