Dance Films Association Announces

Selections from Dance on Camera available through Distrify

NEW YORK (June 2013) Dance Films Association (DFA) announces selections from 2013 Dance on Camera Festival (DOCF) available through Distrify, a toolset that turns the entire internet into a viral distribution platform.   As the catalyst for the production, presentation, and preservation of dance on camera, DFA is excited to make the first ever selections from DOCF available through Distrify. Various packages will include dvd and download purchase options made possible for institutions and higher and lower education for screening and classroom use as well as a streaming rental option for individual viewing. DFA is enthusiastic about developing this opportunity for films from DOCF to screen beyond, but still within the context of, the festival; to benefit participating filmmakers; and simultaneously to reach an audience that extends the festival’s attendance. DFA is committed to making use of toolsets such as Distrify to model and encourage adaptive distribution approaches which are useful to independent filmmakers participating in DOCF and to those filmmakers contributing to the dance film genre. In addition we are especially thrilled to offer additional screening opportunities to prospective DOCF participating filmmakers from this point forward.   In 1996, Dance Films Association and the Film Society of Lincoln Center partnered to co-present Dance on Camera, hosting screenings at the Walter Reade Theater and for the first time during the 40th Anniversary in 2012, at the new Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center. Dance on Camera returned to the Film Society for the 17th consecutive year February 1-5, 2013 with an exciting and diverse array of dance films, including several world premieres. The seven selected short films on this dvd compilation present the work of filmmakers based in the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, and the United States and showcase the vibrance of dance films, ranging from virtuosic narratives to captivating short documentaries. The included panels address various definitions of dance film from it’s role in music videos to it’s position on the spectrum of commercial and art film.     **************************************************************************************************************************** Dance Films Association Dance Films Association (DFA), a non profit membership organization, builds upon founder Susan Braun’s vision by encouraging choreographers to enter the world of filmmaking, for filmmakers to discover the rich history of dance, and for audiences to engage with the broad spectrum of these films.
